Body Parts: Exploring Feelings and Provocations Related to the Female Anatomy
A series commissioned by NOW Gallery for London Craft Week 2021.

How has social media shaped our collective perception of the femme presenting nude and what effect has this shift had on our mental health and personal body image? These are some of the themes that sculptor Sam Dawood interrogates through her practice using playful clay objects to create a safe and accessible space for dialogue and debate.

The NOW Gallery curatorial team and Dawood led a one hour discussion where attendees were encouraged to participate in a conversation exploring the dichotomy of shame and sexualisation, censorship and celebration all in relation to nudity with a focus on healthcare. This series of small sculptures created by Dawood specifically for the event were informed by individuals’ personal experiences and act as provocations for the conversation.
